22. januar 1977 blev Kenya Airways stiftet og 2 uger efter den 4. februar lancerede man selskabets første rute mellem Nairobi og Mombasa.
I dag er Kenya Airways vokset til at være et af Afrikas førende luftfartselskaber med mange ruter i såvel indenfor som udenfor Afrika.
Kenya Airways er medlem af alliancen Skyteam, der omfatter en lang række af verdens store luftfartselskaber bl.a. KLM og Air France.
1977 – Kenya’s own national flagship airline takes off after the break-up of the East African Community
1994 – KQ (Kenya Airways) is privatised
1996 – After 19 years of flying, we float. On the NSE!
2003 – KQ acquires a 49% stake in Precision Air
2004 – We take pride in delivery of the first of four state-of-theart Boeing 777 aircraft
2005 – We achieve IOSA Certification; the first sub-saharan carrier to do so
2007 – KQ becomes the first and only African airline associate member of the global SkyTeam alliance
2008 – COYA recognizes the excellence of our strategic planning and emergency preparedness protocols with two major
industry awards
2009 – We attain ISAGO Certifi cation; the fi rst African airline to do so and only the 21st in the entire world
2010 – We proudly accept full membership in SkyTeam
2011 – The new cutting edge Embraer fl ight simulator is unveiled at Pride Centre
2012 – The KQ Rights Issue successfully raises the targeted capital from investors across the globe
2013 – We win the Best Business Class in Africa award
2014 – Our fleet modernization programme continues as KQ’s first Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner touches down at JKIA
2015 – We win the Best Business Class in Africa again. And pick up another for Best Cargo Airline in Africa
2016 – We proudly accept the highly-prized African Airline of the Year trophy at the World Travel Awards. Another Best
Business Class award adds to our collection.
2017 – January 22nd Kenya Airways celebrates 40 years of progress we can all be proud of!
